Hemp seeds have been a source for nutrition since the early 1990′s, a common mis-conception is that hemp seeds are toxic and considered illegal. This is not the fact as hemp and marijuana comes from two different types of cannabis plants. The difference is the level of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient of marijuana. The drug version of the plant may contain up to 20% THC while the food variety contains less than 1%. Hemp seeds are cleaned and dehulled prior to consumption to help reduce any residual THC to trace amounts.

Hemp seed benefits are delivered by their nutrition factor. Though being negatively viewed due to it’s controversial cousin, from a health standpoint, the seeds are highly desirable. They contain up to 35% protein which is extremely high for plant protein, contains all nine essential amino acids and also high in unsaturated fat. 15-20% of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids help show the wide variety of health benefits that come from hemp.
